The International Music Therapist Coalition
In January 2024, The Horizon Records founded the International Music Therapists Coalition with the aim to support on-the-ground healing practitioners in conflict zones, with a particular focus on the Middle East, by equipping them with the tools and knowledge to deliver music therapy effectively.
Objectives:
To provide immediate and sustained support to trauma-affected youth and communities.
To equip local practitioners with tools and knowledge to continue offering healing services long-term.
To preserve and share best practices in music therapy for future generations of practitioners.
Program Overview:
Resource Development: The coalition creates a comprehensive toolkit of best practices, journal articles, preserved recordings, and other resources to guide practitioners. This digital resource library is designed to empower local teams with evidence-based approaches to music therapy in trauma-affected areas.
Consulting and Mentorship: Music therapists within the coalition offer consulting services and mentoring to local practitioners. These sessions help practitioners implement music therapy programs tailored to their specific context, ensuring the efficacy of healing efforts on the ground.
Toolkit Development: The heart of the program is the creation of a music therapy toolkit. This resource is designed to be a practical guide for practitioners, providing them with strategies, frameworks, and methods to integrate music therapy into their work with trauma survivors in conflict zones.
One-on-One and Small Group Healing Sessions: These virtual music therapy sessions, conducted via platforms like Zoom, cater to individuals and small groups. The sessions are customized to the availability of practitioners, ranging from weekly to monthly engagements.
